Monopoly World War 2 Composite Tokens At the beginning of World War 2, the War Production Board was established as a government agency on January 16, 1942, by executive order of President Roosevelt to regulate and restrict the use of materials and fuels. These restrictions included metal, so Monopoly Games shifted from metal to Wood and/or Composite Tokens made of compressed paper or sawdust. There were 14 shapes made in varied colors. These were found mostly in the Dollar Sign, Popular Edition and White Box #9 Editions from 1942 to early 1946. Note: Wood tokens were first used in Monopoly Games in 1936. World War 2 composite playing pieces were made of compressed paper or sawdust. Playing pieces: Top Row : Dog, Elephant, Train Engine, Pig, Horse with Rider and Cannon 2nd Row : Bathtub, Clog, Battleship, Tank, Car and Iron Front Row: Brown DC-3 Cargo Plane and Blue Fighter Plane Most of these Composite Tokens are relatively common with the exception of the Brown DC-3 and Blue Fighter. Both of these are Very Rare! |
